The Long Goodbye

Play  - The Long Goodbye

Again I move creating distance from the strain,
confounded---my heart overheats anger from the familiar pain.
And as sweat glistens reflecting undo shine above my tamed brows,
our paradigm halts, forcing me to deal with the here and now.

And nothing beats a failure but to try,
And not him but the elements have washed tears from my eyes,
In vain, I’ve loved him tightly throughout the years,
Eyes wide shut, locking the real him inside my fears.

My old self lost as this new self, kin---with a different name,
But like a rose by another name, it’s old petals still FALL the same.
Lesson from this cyclical madness called us is missed again and again,
standing outside I’m looking in, floating between the now and then.

And like many I’ve longed for the ring to score my finger,
to dance through the day into the evening then tomorrow
I chose my King of diamonds from a rough deck of cards,
and now I know loving him was easy, losing him is so hard.
