It’s the number one job. I didn’t want no allegations. So it’s just that but the inverse. We screw up, too. But we settled on a very recent incident starring Meghan Markle, Oprah Winfrey, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne. And it’s one that’s frequently Instagrammed, so I’m sure people have heard it before. But it allows for something transformative to happen and to allow a mistake to be a prompt. Sound familiar? I just walked down Atlantic Avenue, and I was just cracking up. It was a total emotional purge. They’re really just about the person continuing to invest in themselves, right, and their own reputation. We’re talking about a person putting themselves on the altar and, in some ways, chopping off their own heads. Because it assumed that the only possible response to this election was going to be violence. But why? And it feels so great to see someone unabashedly do what all these other apologies really do, which is they just further the person’s own reputation. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem — ”, ” — where I spoke out of turn or did not speak up for what was right. And I would say, by that standard, this is the third type of apology in our taxonomy. Then she feels such umbrage at the response to that conversation that she has with her co-host, including Sheryl Underwood, that she then goes to Twitter and posts an apology. And I’m, like, Wesley, to answer your question, Jenna, what do I think that was about is the question that I was asking myself. Our engineer is Marion Lozano. So I watched the first “Purge.” That’s the only one I’ve seen. We’re not talking about amelioration. He’s on a couch. They created a toxic environment at Gimlet, where I worked, where they worked. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. Like, it is media gone wild. The fantasy is America. It's been almost three years since Rachel Lindsay first began taping her Bachelorette season, which would eventually end in her getting engaged to Bryan Abasolo. And she’s insisting that she’s not racist. I don’t think this apology is that bad, this Justin Timberlake apology. And they look to the activist and writer adrienne maree brown for an example of a “fully evolved” apology. What even is a fantasy? It’s very thought out. Because that is part of the other aspect of what happened on Saturday is the fantasy of what America is. Right? That is not the shared experience of any single person at that table. I just want to say that everyone involved with this series, Sruthi and P.J., who’s the editor of the series, they also have done the things they are making a show about. You know in movies when they look at the compasses and they’re, like, the meters are all off! And we don’t even know what his fantasy of that fantasy is going to look like. But I actually think that the direction we should be trying to go in more frequently is down —. Hm. TechStuff is a show about technology. And I think a lot about that. And I think that there’s something about this moment, especially when the intersections of white maleness and, in Sharon Osbourne’s case, just whiteness, intersect with —, And I just think we really do live in such an incredible moment of dialogue and dialogical interactions between people who would never interact before, right? And I also, I think that these are — we’re talking about ritual sacrifices. OK, we should just say that Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears dated for four years when they were teen stars. He knows that POTUS is bigger than anything that he could possibly be doing with a building. But at the same time, I think these conversations become increasingly improbable when we can’t even agree on how people might behave in response to a presidential election, which — the stores in various cities boarded up preemptively in the days before the election because for whom? Somebody pressed the gravity button, and we fell from the spaceship back to Earth. We’re not talking about making people whole again. I actually think a lot of people are more interested in what the fantasy around Kamala Harris is going to be. Right? It was recently exemplified by the “rapid-fire chain of events” (as Jenna put it) that involved Bon Appétit and Gimlet Media, the parent company of the podcast “Reply All.” It was “Netflix mini-series type level drama” for the media industry, Jenna said. Yes, unfortunately, they do. And here is what I was trying to say. That spell is called America. Right? But they’re animating principles for this country, absolutely. But there’s a lot of self-delusion happening around what the last presidency meant and what the next one will mean. And it’s just —. Like, in the olden days, you’d have to figure out which mansion Justin Timberlake or Sharon Osbourne were holed up in and then mail letters to that house or drive past it and honk really loudly and try to get their attention. I mean, my god, yeah, apologizing years later. So they feel this pressure to respond, but they don’t always allow themselves enough time to think about the authenticity of that response.
